STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) educates students for their future and makes learning relevant by utilizing real-life scenarios that go well beyond the textbook.
St. Joseph Catholic School's mission is to develop personal responsibility, through character, service, and leadership while being rooted in academic excellence and the Catholic Faith; therefore, we have taken the principles of STEM, infused religion across all subjects, and added the arts to provide students the creative thinking skills necessary to communicate and advance in an ever-changing world.
From Pre-K through 8th Grade, our teachers design units of study that challenge and empower students, creating an environment that encourages problem-solving, collaboration, student-led inquiry, and hands-on projects.
Our campus also provides a variety of dynamic learning spaces that include a newly renovated STREAM lab, Science Lab, updated Art Room, Outdoor tables and seating, as well as a Hydroponic Garden.
STREAM education creates an environment where content is interconnected, multi-layered, and centered around themes.
With our Catholic faith woven through all subjects and grade levels, this curriculum promotes a culture of innovation and ethical action to provide a deeper understanding and transfer of knowledge.
On March 10, 2021, the Diocese of Venice Catholic Schools announced a new partnership with FIRST®, a global Robotics Community, For Inspiration, and Recognition of Science and Technology.
The mission of FIRST® is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
In addition to the Core Values of FIRST® - discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, teamwork and fun, the Diocese team has created C.H.R.I.S.T. Gifts – Catholic Habits and Responses in School and Teams as part of the STREAM program.
These gifts are truth, beauty, goodness, humility, fortitude, prudence and affability.
In the classroom, students will be introduced to age-appropriate program kits which are the tools to teach the curriculum.
These kits use LEGO products, such as Duplo blocks for the youngest students, and more traditional blocks for older students.
Each progressive kit increases with difficulty and broadens the concepts learned in earlier years. By middle and high school levels, schools will be building competition robots.
We are grateful for the support from the Diocese of Venice and the Doss Family Foundation for making our STREAM room possible. To learn more about this initiative visit Diocese of Venice STREAM.
Our robotics teams participated in their first practice scrimmage in November of 2021 and brought home their frist trophy in May of 2023. Learn more by visiting Robotics Club.
